International Soil Conservation Day
International Soil Conservation Day is celebrated on 7 July. A date to highlight the benefits of suitable operations and ground’s care from everyone. The commitment to resource’s integrity is essential to ensure its good conditions and its contribution to environmental balance in the future.
In many instances, and in particular when people talk about climate change, soil remains in the background. However, this resource is substantial to combat it. As in the case of the oceans, soils are able to absorb large amount of carbon dioxide, a fact that contributes to mitigating the impact of CO2 emissions on the planet.
This day about soil was established in 1963 in memory of Dr. Hugh Hammond Bennet. An American research who devoted his career to combine an increase in the production of the soil with the care of this valuable resource.
